Time Travellers
21/05/2022 – 11/06/2022
In a painted world of dreamy surrealism rich in expression and figuration, Lina Osama explores diverse dynamics of social and emotional coping mechanisms with a rapidly evolving world, all on a backdrop of abstract often pixelated printed sociological motifs. The exhibition takes you on a nostalgic parade in a journey searching for a serene future accompanied by ancient Egyptians and prehistoric creatures charged with memories of happier times and lessons of survival.
Throughout her international career, Osama has used mixed media to express the complexity of modern life in Cairo blending themes from ancient Egypt with contemporary every day scenes. After studying academic painting in Egypt and Austria, she chose to pursue studies in Filmmaking, art curating and Egyptology which gave her painted persona purely Egyptian features, subtle dramatic body language and deep characters. They are found to gaze towards eternity with wide black eyes and terracotta toned faces demonstrating a contemporary take on Coptic iconography.
