The Skin of DNA
17/10/2021 – 6/11/2021
The skin of DNA is a painting project —with painted sculptural elements in phase II—of mixed-media on canvas exploring visual codes and symbols that play part in creating several narratives on the one canvas. The circle, the blue lotus flower, visual connotations of ancient deities and contemporary imagery extracted from modern day advertising all intertwine like DNA filaments to create a personal diary of evocation, innuendo and subtle statements of past and present, exploring systems of communication and negotiation.
The circled dot in both ancient and modern times’ belief systems symbolized the sun in ancient Egypt, gold in alchemy, the hours of the day, protection against evil eyes, city center in megapolises, crown in Kabbalah, waterhole in Aboriginal communication, end of trail in scouting, machine learning in mathematics, alongside tens of lost, hidden or banal meanings. I have –like in DNA full circles—reverted to old elements I have used in my painting and drawing practice in the past 35 years.
The Skin of DNA is a project about closed circuits, complete life-cycles and new beginnings.
