Seif Wanly

(Egyptian, b. 1906, d. 1979) was an Egyptian painter who was born in Alexandria and who passed away in Stockholm, Sweden. In the 1950s, Wanly documented life in Upper Egypt through a series of drawings and paintings commissioned by the government to document the culture and conditions in Nubia prior to the relocation that occurred to enable building the Aswan High Dam. In 2015 Google Doodle commemorated his 109th birthday. His work has been acquired by many museums such as Darat Al Funoon in Amman, Barjeel Art Foundation in Sharjah and Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha.
