Omar El Nagdi

(Egyptian, b. 1931, d. 2019) is considered one of the most celebrated contemporary artists in Egypt. In 1953 he received his BA from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo as well as a second BA from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Cairo in 1957. He studied the art of ceramics for a year in Russia between 1958-1959. In 1964, he
graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, Italy. He also studied mosaic art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna, Italy. An avid scholar, he studied graphic art at Ban van Eyck Academy Maastrich, Holland. He also holds a diploma from the Ruskin Institute for Art Criticism from Venice, Italy. He also studied the art of mural painting, Venice Academy, Italy. In 1977 he received his Ph.D equivalency at the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities. He is a member of the Fine Arts Lovers Association, the Designers Syndicate, the Programs Committee of the Egyptian Television, the Syndicate of Fine Artists, El-Ghoury Agency artists, the Free Artists Group since 1950. In addition to his work as an artist El Nagdi also worked in academia as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Applied Arts in 1957 to a professor in 1967. He served as the Head of the Department of Interior Design and Furniture in Applied Arts in 1974. He was a member of the Programs Committee of the Egyptian Television, Director General of Production Services in the Egyptian Television from 1971 to 1974. He was the director of a program on Egyptian TV called Art and Our Life from 1972 to 1974. From 1975 to 1978 he was a decoration expert at Abu Dhabi TV. From 1982 to 1988 he was a Secondary Professor, College of Education, King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was a Professor and Head of the Department of Furniture and Interior Design, Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University from 1988 to 1991.
