Nagat Makky
(Emirati, b. 1956) is one of the pioneers in the Emirati contemporary art scene. She is a member of the Dubai Cultural Council. In 1977 the Emirati government granted her a scholarship to study abroad in Cairo at the Faculty of Fine Arts. She was the first Emirati woman to receive this. She obtained a bachelor’s, masters and Phd in relief sculpture and metal. Her influences include the local Emarati environment like the sea and desert as well as Egyptian artists like Mohamed Saeed, Hamed Nada, the Wanly brothers and Saed Alsader.
