Throughout his career El Shimy has designed many logos for government institutions, banks, companies, TV stations and universities. He also designed and wrote all of the inscriptions on the facades of the American University of Sharjah and governmental institutions in Sharjah. He participated in a number of local and international conferences that promote preserving Islamic arts and Arabic calligraphy. He organized several exhibitions in numerous museums and galleries in Egypt and abroad. He worked as a lecturer for two years at the College of Fine Arts and Design in Sharjah as well as 6 years in the College of Engineering and Design at the American University of Sharjah. Currently, he works as a designer and artist in the Government of Sharjah.
