Gehan Seoude
Gehan Seoude is a contemporary Egyptian painter making vivid expressionist paintings capturing the female form with a balance of European and Egyptian styles. Initially favoring landscapes and natural themes, Seoude’s practice evolved gradually to explore wider themes, particularly pharaonic aspects of Egyptian heritage. Later, a more personal approach to her subjects developed with a focus on contemporary portraiture and the female form. Heavily influenced by European expressionist traditions, Seoude’s acrylic paintings are anchored in Egyptian identity. Her sense of palette is a theatrical match to the drama captured in her compositions. As observed by the artist, there is always a surprise. She is a graduate of Helwan University with a Bachelor of Education. She undertook additional studies in the Department of Oil Painting at the Faculty of Fine Art (Zamalek) and art criticism at the Academy of Arts (el Haram). She is a member of the Syndicate of Fine Arts and has exhibited extensively since graduating in 2002 showcasing her work in workshops and solo and group exhibitions throughout Egypt and abroad.
