Ismail Azzam
Iraqi, b. 1962

Ismail Azzam is a renowned Iraqi portrait artist and curator, celebrated for his mastery of the "reverse charcoal" technique. Born in 1962, he earned his diploma in fine arts in 1983 from the Institute of Art in Mosul and a BFA in fine art from Baghdad University.
In 1996, Azzam relocated to Doha, Qatar, where he contributed to the Arab Museum of Modern Art, the National Council of Culture, and served as curator at the Orientalist Museum Collection. His notable exhibition, For Them, showcased emotive charcoal portraits honoring 15 influential Arab artists. Azzam's works have been featured in various international exhibitions, and he continues to teach art, sharing his expertise in portraiture techniques.
